Kamala area guide for buyers
A quieter west-coast bay between Patong and Surin, with a growing five-star district at its northern end. What it's like to live and invest in Kamala.
Kamala is a bay on Phuket’s west coast between Patong and Surin. It is where our office is, so this is the area we know best.
Daily life. Kamala still has a village centre with local markets and restaurants, plus Tops Daily and Villa Market supermarkets. Phuket FantaSea, the island’s best-known cultural theme park, is at the edge of town. Wattanapat Hospital Phuket, a private hospital with 24-hour emergency care, is in Kamala.
The north end. The beachfront north of the village has turned into a five-star strip, around the InterContinental Phuket Resort and the Café del Mar beach club.
Getting around. Patong is about 15 minutes south, Surin and Bang Tao about 10 minutes north, and the airport about 40 minutes.
What this means for buyers and investors
Why Kamala. It is quieter than Patong and less built-up than Bang Tao, with a real beach and the services long-stay residents need. That mix suits holiday homes and family rentals.
Where the growth is. Five-star hotels and beach clubs at the north end have raised the area’s profile. Villas within walking distance of the beach are the easiest to rent to families and groups.
What to watch. Kamala has less flat land than Bang Tao, so many projects are on hillsides. Check road access, slope and flood drainage before buying, and ask how far the “walk to the beach” really is.
